It takes a village…
Parent partnership is such a vital part of our care ethos. Our team of carers work closely together with parents and families to best fulfil our role to enable confident and happy children to learn and grow together. It’s a role we take seriously because we believe that together we are helping to build a better and brighter future, one child at a time.
At Giraffe, parents and carers enjoy a continuous and ongoing dialogue. Together with weekly observations and developmental meetings, we encourage a meaningful dialogue between home and crèche to support your child’s day-to-day development.
All of our centres host regular parent developmental evenings. The parent evenings are an excellent opportunity for parents to discuss their child’s records with their child’s key carers, and to look at their child’s holistic development linked to the Aistear curriculum themes:
- Identity and Belonging
- Exploring and Thinking
- Well Being.
Parents also have an opportunity to see and even experience some of the activities their children participate in on a weekly basis. We are dedicated to promoting each child’s individual emotional, social and physical development and working closely with parents as well.
It was wonderful to get the opportunity to look around Graces classroom and to see all the artwork that she has made and activities that she has participated in. It is clear to us from what we saw on the Developmental evening, as well as every evening that we collect Grace, that she is in a safe and stimulating environment where she is learning and thriving under the careful and attentive guidance of her wonderful carers. Our Parent Coach, Aoife Lee, of Parent Support, regularly hosts parenting workshops on a range of topics including managing your child’s behaviour, preparing for new siblings, and supporting your child through change/transitions. Aoife is a mother of two children under the age of seven, she is an accredited parent and life coach and is the founder of Parent Support. Our parents provide important feedback on what they found were some of the more challenging aspects of parenting, and Aoife addresses these topics during her sessions.
Every year at the end of the June, Giraffe celebrates the preschool Graduates! The children who are leaving for primary school invite their parents to come in for a graduation party at their centre. This can be a somewhat bitter-sweet time, when the parents and families reflect at how quickly their babies have grown! We value this time to spend together as we reminisce about the children’s journeys with Giraffe, reflect on the friendships they have made, and celebrate their individual achievements.
This annual summer tradition is a fantastic way to meet other parents, catch up with your child’s edu-carers and enjoy some summer foods. An extra-special thank you to every Centre chef who takes time out of their busy week to prepare the delicious BBQ treats and feasts for the children and all the adults as well!
